[Cross Country] Brito Places 2nd at Vanguard InvitationalPublished by
ORANGE, Calif. - Vanguard broke with tradition this year hosting its 26th Annual Invitational at Irvine Regional Park rather than historical Fairview Park in Costa Mesa where the meet had been held since 1999. A total of twelve teams were represented with nine posting scores in the team standings. The VU women finished eighth overall and the men finished fourth. Capturing team honors in the women's race was NAIA 18th ranked Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) with an upset victory over ninth ranked Westmont College by nine points (43-52). In the men's race the same two teams battled for the title again with NAIA 17th ranked Westmont College coming out on top with a mild upset over 15th ranked Lewis-Clark State by 10 points (42-52). Claiming individual honors for the women was Sophomore Alyssa Allen (Orange Coast College) with a winning 5k time of 18:33.
